Statement from Âé¶¹¹ú²ú NHS Foundation Trust on CQC Report on Surgical Services

We acknowledge the findings of the Care Quality Commission following its inspection of surgical services at Âé¶¹¹ú²ú District Hospital in September 2025 with the service rated good for being effective, caring and responsive and requires improvement for safety and being well led.  We accept the areas identified for improvement. We are pleased that the report also recognises the commitment of our staff and highlights areas of high-quality care being delivered for patients at Âé¶¹¹ú²ú District Hospital.

New booking system for GP-requested blood tests to improve patient experience

Âé¶¹¹ú²ú District Hospital is changing the way it provides GP-requested blood tests through its Pathology Department, which will improve patient experience and reduce waiting times. The booking system is now available for appointments from Monday 10th August, when the walk-in service will no longer be available for GP-requested blood tests. Alternatively, patients can arrange to have their blood test at their GP surgery or at the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Âé¶¹¹ú²ú City Centre.

Âé¶¹¹ú²ú NHS Foundation Trust Plans New Diagnostic and Surgical Hub


01 July 2026
Âé¶¹¹ú²ú NHS Foundation Trust has launched a public engagement process about plans to build a new Diagnostic and Surgical Hub (DASH) on Âé¶¹¹ú²ú District Hospital’s site. Subject to approval of the final business case, the new building will include five operating theatres, MRI and CT scanners, and four endoscopy rooms. The hub has been designed as the best opportunity to separate planned care from urgent and emergency services while making the most effective use of the hospital site. It will help to improve patient flow, reduce delays and enhance the experience for both patients and staff. (Image: artist's impression of the Hub).
