Request Summary: IUD Wait Times
Request Category: Private Individuals
| Question Number 1: I'm writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 about access to intrauterine contraception in your sexual and reproductive health services. In each case, please cover the 12 months from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026, and split figures by copper IUD and hormonal IUS where possible. If you don't record waiting times in exactly this form, I'd be grateful for whatever comparable measure you do hold, along with a short note on how it is calculated. 1. The median and mean waiting time, in days, between a patient requesting or being referred for an IUD or IUS fitting and the fitting taking place. A monthly breakdown would be very helpful if it is available. | |
| Answer To Question 1: The Sexual Health Dept are not able to comment on specific wait times for coil fits as they do not create a waiting list. As each patient contacts the service (or is referred by GP) they are directly booked into the next available appointment that suits their needs.) Currently the next available appointment with a trained coil fitter as of today, 7/10/26, (and therefore when next coil fit appointment could be booked) is in 3 weeks and 1 day. | |
| Question Number 2: The longest waiting time, in days, recorded for an IUD or IUS fitting. | |
| Answer To Question 2: As per response in Q1 | |
| Question Number 3: The total number of IUD and IUS fittings carried out. | |
| Answer To Question 3: Please see attached - 3. IUD fits 214. IUS fits 713. To accompany this answer to question 3 please also see the documents listed below: | |
| Question Number 4: The number of patients waiting for an IUD or IUS fitting on 30 September 2026, or on the most recent date for which figures are held. | |
| Answer To Question 4: As per response in Q1 | |
| Question Number 5: The number of those patients who had been waiting more than four weeks, and more than 12 weeks. | |
| Answer To Question 5: As per response in Q1 | |
